His blog was pretty good, and seemed to be a mix of Notebook and filter, steering me towards some fun news stories, and telling me his opinion on some things, but then he linked me to this. Which I think is awesome. It's been a challenge to categorize as a blog though. it seems like she's commenting on things around her, so I guess I'll have to say Blog. There is only one link, to a marketing page where she is selling t-shirts with her notecards on them.
Anyway, I've spent way too much time filtering through these fun to read cards, check it out. It's a cool mix of mediums, photos of notecards on the internet.

Blogger tip #2: Blog about your Nemesis.

Nemesis.
So The Long and short of it, well short of it, is that As much as I may want to complain about someone, nothing is worse than being insulted by so no name kid, me, on a computer. So Gunn isn't my nemesis, but check him out Here:

Gunn Loves him some Cats.

his blog,

Irish and Celtic Music Podcast

Ren Faire Podcast

Cat Lover's Podcast

Pub Songs Podcast

Irish Stout Podcast

A Brobdingnagian Minute

*EDIT!
So, obviously I have regrets about what I posted, I was saying how much I regreted it through the whole post. But it turns out, I should take a minute to deal with this. The thing that pushed me over the top on Gunn was a Song about Joss Whedon and Firefly. Problem is...
Marc didn't sing it... These guys did.
I mean I still have my doubts about Gunn, but he certainly isn't my nemesis.

Blog about what Makes you angry

So, here's my brilliant technique: In order to be filled with all the anger it takes to write a full seven course meal worth of criticism, I figured I would cover a blog on an issue that will get me successfully upset, and full of piss and vinegar.

I thought I found just that, here at the Minutemenblog. It’s kind of set up like a mix between a filter site, highlighting links and news stories relating to the American-Mexican border, and a notebook by occasionally posting newsletter type stuff for the organization, and having reports on what they've been doing in the field. Even posting notices for christmas parties and get togethers.

Well, not parties, but something important. Now in a time of war when way too many U.S. Soldiers are fighting a rugged war in Iraq, risking death daily, the minutemen are calling on it’s supporters to send Christmas packages to the National Guardsmen that have been sent to guard the American Mexican Border.

Sure, granted (granite? :) ) it’s a bad deal to have to work over Christmas, and it’ll be great for them to get some Christmas related care packages, but do you think these guys could get a better Christmas present then not being in Iraq? Furthermore, do you think maybe the guys over in Iraq could use some Christmas cheer while being shot at?

Opperation Christmas Stocking.

We have entitled this event "Operation Christmas Stocking" (thanks Pineapple 6) a caravan of Arizona MCDC volunteers to bring Christmas Joy to the men and women of the U.S. National Guard who are standing watch over our U.S. border with Mexico.

Don’t for a minute… ha… think that I’m pro Iraq war, but c’mon even I can see this as perhaps a poor use of energy.
Anyway, their blog isn’t really that bad. It shows occasional pictures of their progress on the self-funded wall between Mexico and the U.S.

Fence underway.

They have their commentary on what is going on, and often times they just report peculiar happenings for their day on Patrol. It seems like their blog shifts from filter to Notebook often. Depending on the news coverage and who is maintaining the blog. It has a lot of block quotes when it links to news articles and isn’t as terrible to read as I though it would be.
The minutemen were not too long ago on This American Life, and the episode was quite funny really, highlighting more their struggle with the protestors than anything else.

Minutemen on This American Life.

Minutemen Harrassed by the Angels of the Desert and Backed by their allies the great folks at Fox News.

Anyway, I feel like I’m complaining more about the minutemen than talking about the blog so I’m gonna wrap this up. The minutemen have a decent blog that is a great way to hear their side of the story, and isn’t horribly filled with rhetoric as I was expecting.

okay, after reviewing

So that's episode 1, which followed episode zero which was lost lost to the Internet cosmos. so technically It isn't my first podcast, turns out, I was way off, my first one came out on February 5th, not 6th, which means I'm late. No worries I solved it the same way I normally do, by Ignoring it, and hoping the problem goes away, which it did after a 6 hours. What really bothers me though, is that during that time, when my computer was down, thanks to this class, I was reading Blood's book, which is obviously about the internet.
So now I've uploaded all my purchased itunes crap onto my ipod, so hopefully, magically if my computer dies I can transfer it all over to a new machine with some hacking software...
Oh cruel ever penetrating technology. Amongst other things I do, we often talk about what was traded for furs.

One of these trade items are beads.
The Parks display of beads suck, although they are original beads they aren't terribly accurate to our site, or our location. Many of us interpreters bring our own beads, which means we're in the market of buying more accurate beads, and the only way to get more accurate beads these days in any number is to buy originals.
There were many, many more beads traded in North America than other places around the world, primarily Africa, but unlike Africa, the beads were traded everywhere, and are scattered very far, so finding them, can be difficult. In Africa though, the beads were only traded, for the most part, on the western shore. Which Means a greater quantity of beads can be found there, in fact a much greater quantity of beads. The very same beads were traded in Africa to buy slaves, as were traded in America to get pelts. Due to the large quantity, original African beads, that is to say beads dug up in Africa are much cheaper, and the bead in question, the only bead

I have information on by a bead by bead level is this bead, the Blue Padre.

I have several strands of Padres, they’re beautiful, and a great bead for interpreting, because they were traded for a very large period of time, like 1600’s till 1800’s, and even thought I primarily due 1797, it’s handy to have some flexibility.

So Anyway, these beads that I have, they represent human lives.
Human lives that were snatched up by an enemy, and shipped to a life of enslavement. I don’t have them for this reason, I have them to help me explain the fur trade, but the fact remains that these beads were traded for a human life.
This is not a cozy interpreting moment talking about how they would have been traded, or beads like this were used, no, these beads were traded in exchange for human lives.
Lately, I’ve been restringing the beads, and making necklaces out of these things, necklaces that reflect common usage in the fur trade, nice mix of cheap and expensive beads, often times falling back on a Blue Padre or three as a centerpiece of cheaper pound beads.
According to the best bead expert I know, Jeff Plath, in the 1820’s through 1830’s at one particular post, 2 blue padres were worth one made beaver. That is to say, if you brought in a high quality, stretched and dried winter beaver pelt with a thick layer of under fur you could be given enough credit to buy 2 blue Padre beads.
So there it is, You can Buy a Beaver pelt with 2 padre beads, which can be sold in England by 1830 for 36 shillings, or about 2 pounds.
At the same time in Africa a typical male slave was going for 16 bucks. In 1830, 16 bucks was worth about 3.36 British pounds. So If you could sell 2 beaver pelts that you got for 4 padre beads, you could buy a male slave and have a little left over.
So really a little over 3 beads represents 1 man, 1 guy, 1 slave. One man that died while being shipped over, one man that died in the fields, or one man that sprung a family who’s lineage continues to this day.
I have about 160 of these beads.

And that’s just one type of bead. I have about ten other varieties of beads, some far more highly valued in the 17 and 1800’s.
Just In blue Padres, I have 48 people worth of 19th century currency. This idea has drained me a bit, and I don’t know what to do about it. Wear them as a reminder of how fucked up the world is, and has been? Burn them? Celebrate them? I don’t know. I just know it’s blowing my mind.
<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; It's an Irish bar where it's St. Patrick's day everyday forever. […] They were playing dice with two roman soldiers and a bunch of the Irish guys. Doesn't make sense. The Irish, they were winning every roll.”

So, I'm alone again, My Girlfriend's Grandpa just died, and she's flying to Buffalo to attend the Funeral.
But this guy, this old man, her grandpa, was pretty awesome, and kept his wits about him to the end.
I mean sure, he's Italian, he worked in Unions, and he looks like Uncle Junior, but despite previous reports, he didn't use sambuca on his wheaties. Rather than a mafia don, He was just a hilarious old man with a big social network of former co-workers.
Her grandpa, has been dying for a couple days. Really, he's died 6 times before finally checking out Thursday at noon.
See, he had a breathing problem, years of smoking, working in arsenic rich work sites, 2 fights with lung cancer and 70 years of living in New York were taking their toll on him.
After a couple days of short breath and exhausting sentences he finally was taken to the hospital. The Doctors quickly started giving him oxygen, which seemed to help the problem. Oxygen = Grandpa alive, No Oxygen = Grandpa dead.
Well they wouldn’t give him a steady drip of oxygen, I assume they were hoping that his body would heal itself, but it didn’t. Without the Oxygen he’d die, and did die, then they’d give him more Oxygen and he’d come back. Well after two or three times of this He was getting frustrated, and he’d say,
“Where Am I?” Replying his daughter Barbara would assure him that he was in the Hospital in Buffalo, to which he’d retort, “Still? I’m still in this damn place?”

A couple times of that conversation is funny enough, but the best is when they had a doctor that was slow with the sweet reviving power that the Oxygen held over this old man, when he came back that time he proclaimed,
“I’ve got a report to make.” Tense ears waited eagerly for the statements, “There ain’t no white light, no one came to get me, that’s all a bunch of Bull shit, well maybe I’m going to purgatory” followed by the nurse quietly saying, “if he didn’t see no light he’s going down.”
Apparently after moments of the doctor trying not to laugh he doubled over, taking a knee and holding on to the support railing of the hospital bed laughing hysterically.

It’s nice to hear of a senior dying with their wits about them, I’ve never been around a death of an older person where their brain wasn’t gone long before they died. Because they knew he was dying, they were able to have a living memoriam with him, inviting all of his friends and relatives into the hospital room for one last party, what a way to go.

Joseph P. I want a better url, I suppose I shouldn't worry, I can easily abandon this blog and be the same as so many others have done, and abandon my poor defenseless little blog in the great big dangerous hyperspace.
And That makes me feel swell, cause it's good to be a part of something. I'll join the brotherhood of bastard creators who make and ignore blogs, websites, podcasts and babies.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://gegoo.blogspot.com/2007/01/oh-god-what-have-i-done.html' title='Oh god...
